Colleyville Middle School Lego League performs for the LEOs

The Colleyville Middle School Lego League visited the LEOs and performed a skit that helped inform members about deteriorating peripheral vision and a way to help combat it. LEO Jacob Hethcock is also a member of the CMS FLL Team. Jacob was involved in getting some of his teammates to help with the LEOs Eyeglass Recycling efforts where they learned how to use a lensometer to measure the prescription strength of used eyeglasses being prepared for use by mission groups around the world.

The FIRST LEGO League (also known by the acronym FLL) is an international competition for elementary and middle school students (ages 9–14 in the USA and Canada, 9-16 and Australia). It is arranged by the FIRST organization.

Each year the contest focuses on a different real-world topic related to the sciences. Each challenge within the competition then revolves around that theme. The robotics part of the competition revolves around designing and programming LEGO Robots to complete tasks. The students work out solutions to the various problems they are given and then meet for regional tournaments to share their knowledge, compare ideas, and display their robots.

LEOs provide meals for Presbyterian Night Shelter

Over $400 of the LEO Club’s charity funds were spent to prepare breakfast sacks to hand out to the needy during the holidays at the Presbyterian Night Shelter. 19 LEOs and LEO Boosters assembled the meals that were subsequently delivered by the Lions Club to the shelter.

Your Breakfast Snacks were delivered on December 23 to the Presbyterian Night Shelter and will be shared daily through out the Christmas and New Year Holidays. It was a job well done.

LEOs Lend a Hand at Sports Extravaganza

The Leos showed up in force at the Sports Extravaganza. Twelve members were charged with officiating the Friday afternoon Goalball event. It was an extremely rewarding experience for the contestants and the Leos.

LEO Club Installation Dinner

The LEO Club was officially installed Saturday the 16th where the Colleyville Lions Club officiated the formal swearing in of the LEO Club officers and charter membership. The signing of the clubs official charter was kicked off by the 22 attending LEOs and will be continued at subsequent club meetings until the entire list of 44 charter members can sign the  document. Over 60 attended the installation dinner including LEOs, Lions, parents and friends.

LEO Success at Hole in One Shootout

 

 

Every year the Colleyville Lions Club hosts the Hole in One Shootout. This year, the LEOs helped the Lions at the event, washing golf clubs, grilling hot dogs and serving cold lemonade for tips.

Over 110 services hours were earned by the 25 different LEOs that helped over the course of the 3 day event.

Hole in One Fundraiser

This event helped the LEO Club raise $225, which will go to various club activities.
